Priority Bird Species
Landbird species of priority conservation concern for the Landbird Habitat Program are those identified by the Ontario Bird Conservation Region 13 Plan for the Lower Great Lakes/St. Lawrence Plain (BCR13).
Using a detailed assessment process, BCR13 identified those regularly occurring landbird species in Ontario that met the Partners in Flight (PIF) criteria for Species of Continental or Regional Importance, because of high conservation concern, vulnerability, and/or high stewardship responsibility scores. PIF priority species in BCR13 include priority bird species of high conservation responsibility, as well as species of high concern. Many of the identified priority bird species are provincially and/or federally listed as a species at risk and they are all of regional concern and thus illicit regional responsibility.
For more information on how species are assessed and for definitions of determining factors please see the full BCR13 plan (PDF 2.63MB).
